OLD BUSINESS
The newsletter deadline is September 10, 2010 and materials should be
forwarded to Mary Everhart.
Magazine Recycle Program: We always need materials. In recent months
donations of glossy magazines has dwindled to almost nothing. Drop off
places are listed in the newsletter and on the website.
Trails: Peggy Koster reported she had the Trail Survey available if
anyone wanted to view it. She also reported that various riding venues
have requested “Scoop your poop” signs and she will order 25 at
approximately $15 each. She spoken briefly about the rescheduled
Delaware Trail Summit. Information will be in the next newsletter and on
our website.
Pam Nebel reported that she has shirts for sale available in all sizes.
Dinner/Dance/Auction: Pam Nebel has agreed to co-chair with Stan
emceeing for March 2011. She will be contacting Harrington Fire
Department. Since Wayne Nebel has recently joined as a volunteer, we may
be eligible for a discount on hall rental. This year Pam will handle all
money for this event in order to accurately track our profits/expenses.
Equine liability signs have been reordered and are available.
Peggy Koster has written various thank you notes for recent donations, etc.
Peggy Koster and Paula Barto attended the EAAHSC meeting and barbecue.
It was a good meeting in a casual atmosphere.
October meeting speaker(s): Discussions are underway to have several
Fair Hill VMPs (volunteer mounted patrol) give a presentation. Look for
more information on our website and in the October newsletter. As a
result of this meeting, it was determined that a DEC Board meeting is
needed. It will be 5:30 p.m. August 16, 2010 at a place TBD!
AMBA: thank you to Pam for our booth set up. Connie Lundquist reported
that 37 animals were shown and 17 were adopted.
Felton Fun Days was canceled.
DQHA: Thank you to Stan for the booth set up.
Paula Barto spoke of her concern to have an email version of our
newsletter. She reminded us that we must bulk mail at least 250 to
qualify for the rate. She also feels strongly that our commercial
members will be alienated by this action.
Scholarship: the committee is hammering out new language regarding
criteria. There was consensus among those present that we should open
application to students in equine studies programs in other states,
especially since those courses of student are not available in Delaware.
Look for new language on our website and in the 2011 DEC Directory.
ELCR Grant: the deadline is fast approaching. Susan Moerschel has shared
the name Ron Vickers and Mary will contact him asap.
NEW BUSINESS
AHC letters, brochures and information is available on the back table.
Upcoming Booth Set Ups: First State Shooters August 21 – Stan; Fair July
29 – Peggy, Paula with relief from Stan/Laurie and others yet to be
determined.
We have not heard from Delaware COOP. Peggy will contact.
ELCR available publications were discussed and it was decided that we
would order a number of them with funds we have budgeted. Pam will place
the order.
Proposed Kent County Horse Park: we heard from Delbert Mills about an
idea to solicit Kent County Levy Court to acquire a block of land solely
for equestrian use. There was an expansive discussion about this and it
was decided that the next step is for Mr. Mills to approach levy court
commissioners and assess the atmosphere for this request.. Contact
information for Delbert Mills is: cell: 670-8624 and email:
dmills@harringtonera.com.
Two items of new business: when doing a booth setup, please wear
something with the DEC logo (Hat, shirt, etc.) and email: please do not
use addresses of officers/board for anything but DEC-related business.
A motion to adjourn was made at 8:26 and the meeting ended.
